Interest inventories and surveys appraise your interest in a wide range of general activities and then compare your profile or pattern of interests to the profiles of other students or to those individuals successfully employed in specific occupational groups. A high degree of similarity between your interests and the interest of people in a particular group might give you some ideas for possible majors or careers to explore. Interest inventories do not, however, tell you what you should do or pursue. Only you can make that decision. Personality profiles involve gathering information about yourself to assist in making a career decision. By developing an understanding of yourself you become aware of the interrelationship between self and your occupational choice. These inventories will help you understand and identify the personal values that influence this choice. They will also help you gain self-awareness, improve self-confidence and provide some insight on stress management.
